tralala

Variations and little tunes: a personal macOS app that turns a description, a hummed melody or an old public-domain song into a track, generated entirely on the Mac with YuE2.

State
On 16 Oct 2026 tralala stands where it stopped on 3 Oct: the app and all 23 trials in its library date from 2–3 Oct, and an independent audio player written that day is still uncommitted. m

Runs on
An Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 14 or later; everything runs locally
Built with
A SwiftUI app driving a Python worker on MLX: a port of YuE2, SheetSage2, librosa and a hum-to-song adapter
Data
Nothing leaves the Mac; 48 ready-made recipes, 18 of them built on French songs from a 1910 collection
Code
Private repository, no licence file

Known limits

  • The model weights are licensed CC BY-NC 4.0; an individual-creator permission added upstream on 16 Sept allows publishing generated songs, but the adapter’s terms are not settled. m
  • No result has been judged by ear in the app’s own checks. m
  • Singing cannot be switched off, and French singing is not among the languages the engine demonstrates. m
  • It is a local installation, not a distributable app. m

  1. decision

Re-orchestrating a generated song with a general soundfont is set aside after listening tests; only separating stems with Demucs stays on the list. m

  2. rename

YuE Atelier becomes tralala, "variations et ritournelles", a name that depends on neither the model nor the final shape of the app. m

  3. decision

The app also becomes a library of old public-domain songs as starting points: 18 French songs from a 1910 anthology are added as recipes, with English translations. m

  4. milestone

The first version of tralala generates full songs on a Mac with YuE2, with no server: at 32 steps a song takes about as long as it lasts. m
